- Limiting the sizes of the portions that you eat
One of the hardest habits to break is eating within a reasonable portion size. You should always limit the amount of food you put on your plate, and replace unhealthy choices with healthy ones to obtain proper nutrients from the meal. Ideally, a larger plate full of fruits, vegetables and red meat will always be healthier than a small plate of pasta and desserts.
- Avoid eating when upset
Eating when you’re upset can become a crux for dealing with negative emotions, and as a result, you will likely find yourself overeating. Any time that you find yourself sad, angry or anxious, make sure to stay away from the kitchen cabinets, and if you do eat, make sure you’re snacking on veggies and fruits until your bout of emotions are properly worked through.
- Drink plenty of water
Appetites can be curved by drinking plenty of water, and in doing so, you’ll also keep yourself well-hydrated. Many people find that by replacing sugary beverages with one to two glasses of water, they are able to lose anywhere from 10 to 20 pounds or more.
- Avoid second helpings
After a tasty first round, second helpings often sound like a fantastic idea, however, you don’t want to fill up on the leftover foods just yet. Your body hasn’t digested what you’ve already eaten, and your brain might be telling you that you’re still hungry, but in actuality, if you wait 10 to 15 minutes, you’ll likely find that you aren’t as hungry as you thought you were.
- Eat more fiber
Fiber is a great filler for the body. Sometimes, when the body gives off signals that it’s hungry, it’s actually searching for more fiber to be ingested. It’s because of this that you’ll want to eat foods that are rich in fiber to help curb your appetite, which will do wonders in terms of being able to eat in moderation.
Too much of anything in life is never a good thing, and this especially applies to food when trying to lose weight. By eating in moderation, you’ll find that you are able to keep yourself full, while at the same time be on a positive pathway to losing weight. And if you want to take weight loss to the next level, combine your moderate eating practices with 15 to 20 minutes of moderate to intense exercise — briskly walk or jog for two miles — three to five times a week.
