Eating In Moderation to Prevent Type Two Diabetes

A poor diet and a lack of exercise are two of the leading causes that result in an individual developing type two diabetes. And an unfortunate statistic to be noted is that by the year 2025, it is predicted that over 300 million people around the world will suffer from this life altering health condition. However, there is a simple solution that can help prevent this awful disease: eating healthy and limiting portions.

Here are some tips that will help prevent type two diabetes:

  • Switch from white to brown foods

Whole grains are a healthier choice to eat in comparison to processed wheats, such as white bread and different types of pastas that are not whole grain. Following this tip will help eliminate any unnecessary weight gain by giving the body the nutrients it was intended to have. It also helps to reduce the amount of trans fat consumed, thus preventing extra weight gain.

  • Eat more fiber

By eating more fiber, it will help reduce a person’s blood sugar count significantly. It’s imperative to include more fibrous items on the plate when eating to keep high blood sugar at bay, especially vegetables.

  • Avoid sugar

Sugar is in just about everything nowadays, and it can sometimes be a bit tricky in terms of finding foods or preparing dishes that don’t contain sugar. However, by simply cutting out energy drinks and sugary beverages, a person can be well on his or her way to significantly reducing the amount of sugar that he or she consumes on a daily basis.  And as expected, the less sugar, the less the risk of developing type two diabetes.

  • Don’t eat fatty foods

Fried chicken, red meat, and dark meat are all risk factors to gaining weight, among other health concerns.  These items are high in cholesterol, which is incredibly harmful to the body. They clog arteries, leave the body feeling lethargic, and they greatly increase a person’s risk for developing type two diabetes.  It’s pertinent to avoid eating these foods as much as possible, and instead eat lean chicken or turkey for a healthier option.

  • Commit to a workout routine

As mentioned before, not enough people exercise on a regular basis. By committing to a workout program and eating in moderation, a person is sure to maintain or lose weight, which is crucial in preventing type two diabetes.
